JOB OVERVIEW

Develops electronics and software/firmware for state-of-the-art laser products within the aerospace and defence division working on R&D projects. Works within the electronics and software team to take ownership of design, test, documentation and other development related activities for ongoing engineering projects. Designs new products and test equipment as well as updating current products to new specifications. Understands product compliance and testing. Is focused on designing innovative solutions to build effective products for customers.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with other disciplines, responsible for: designing new laser systems from concept through to manufacture, testing and writing of assembly instructions and bills of materials. Works with team of laser engineers and ensures correct controls, procedures and specifications are maintained. Considers customer requirements over the design lifecycle. Works collaboratively with engineering and project teams to achieve solutions. Ensures deliveries are met within project deadlines. Manages relevant parts of engineering projects. Carries out tolerance calculations were required. Ensures design can be manufactured with satisfactory yield and cost in close collaboration with suppliers. Finds and selects suppliers, e.g. for new capabilities. Assembles the first prototypes to ensure specification is met. Capable of programming in C, VHDL etc to support circuit design. Ensures documentation and release of all work via PLM/PDM and other company systems. Ensures products meet all relevant safety and compliance standards through testing and documentation as required. Works to continuously improve product design, production and cost efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED



A relevant engineering degree.



SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED



General digital, analogue and DC power circuit design, Altium design, schematic capture and simulation, CPLD & FPGA design, development and simulation. Ability to take ownership for and lead product development in electronics and software. An experienced engineer skilled at communicating with management, other engineering disciplines and team members. Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills. High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality and reliability. Excellent team player with practical and methodical working practices. Expert in electronic engineering or software engineering. Strong organisational skills to be able to work on multiple concurrent activities. Innovative. Can work independently and mange time effectively.



EXPERIENCE REQUIRED



Greater than 10 years of experience in developing electronics or firmware for embedded systems over the complete product life cycle. Knowledge of laser systems is desirable. Detailed knowledge of state of the art electronic and software technologies. Experience of working with external partners. Experience with tolerance calculations. Experience documenting design and instructions. Experience of creating cost effective solutions.



TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS



Up to 10% annually, potentially globally.
